💙 FUNDING PRIORITIES

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF THE SCHIPPERKE

The Schipperke Club of America Rescue & Health Foundation, Inc. is committed to directing its resources where they can make the greatest impact. Through careful stewardship and a mission-driven approach, the Foundation prioritizes funding initiatives that protect, improve, and sustain the health and well-being of the Schipperke.

Our funding decisions are guided by a commitment to science, responsible breeding, rescue support, and education, ensuring that every dollar contributes to meaningful, lasting outcomes.

🔬 HEALTH RESEARCH & GENETIC ADVANCEMENT

The Foundation prioritizes funding for scientific research that advances understanding of inherited diseases and improves long-term breed health.

This includes support for:

  • Genetic research and DNA-based studies
  • Disease-specific research such as epilepsy, MPSIIIB, hemangiosarcoma, and orthopedic conditions
  • Partnerships with organizations such as the AKC Canine Health Foundation and universities
  • Development of improved diagnostic tools and testing methods

These investments help drive progress toward prevention, early detection, and better outcomes for future generations.

🧬 HEALTH TESTING & BREEDER SUPPORT

Ensuring access to health testing is essential to responsible breeding. The Foundation supports programs that promote and expand testing within the breed.

Funding may be directed toward:

  • Subsidized health clinics (eyes, patellas, thyroid, cardiac, hips)
  • Genetic testing initiatives, including platforms such as Embark
  • Encouraging participation in CHIC and OFA programs
  • Educational resources that guide breeders in health testing protocols

🐾 RESCUE ASSISTANCE & DIRECT CARE

A core priority of the Foundation is providing financial support for Schipperkes in need.

This includes:

  • Veterinary care for rescued dogs
  • Emergency medical treatment
  • Support for approved individual rescuers and rescue organizations
  • Assistance during urgent or high-need rescue situations

The Foundation ensures that funds are available to respond quickly and effectively when dogs require care.

🚑 DISASTER RELIEF & EMERGENCY RESPONSE

The Foundation supports disaster preparedness and response efforts that protect companion animals during emergencies.

Funding priorities include:

  • Support for AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers
  • Emergency response infrastructure
  • Assistance during natural disasters and large-scale emergencies

These efforts extend the Foundation’s impact beyond the breed, supporting animal welfare on a broader scale.

🎓 EDUCATION & OUTREACH

Education is essential to long-term improvement in breed health and welfare.

The Foundation prioritizes:

  • Expert-led seminars and breeder education programs
  • Public education about the Schipperke
  • Outreach initiatives that promote responsible ownership
  • Resources that support informed decision-making

🏛️ ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT & PARTNERSHIPS

The Foundation works collaboratively with organizations that align with its mission.

Funding may support:

  • Breed-specific rescue organizations
  • Health research institutions
  • Collaborative initiatives with national and local clubs
  • Programs that expand the Foundation’s reach and effectiveness

💡 RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP

Every funding decision is made with careful consideration and a focus on long-term impact. The Foundation is committed to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that funds are used effectively to support its mission.
